Are you thinking of moving to the country but don't have land? Here's how to become a pig farmer without land.
Reign “Buck” Buckingham designed a mobile pig rotation system of 10 to 12 pigs. A self-styled Nomadic Demigod, Buck moves pigs between properties for maintenance and meat.
The mobile system includes water, shelter, food, and low impact on the ground. Pigs stay in portable electric fencing. Buck designed and fabricated the entire system.
By moving the animals, the pigs aerate the soil, break down flammable brush, and help you benefit from the land you don't own.
Without the pigs, these properties would become overgrown. Landowners save money, while regenerative farming improves the land.
A Sustainable Mobile Piggery That Raises More Than Swine
It's a life where the pig lives a healthy life. The surrounding community gains qualified food. These pigs have one bad day.
Buck handles from birth to butcher—the artistry of raising healthy animals, serving your community, and caring for the land.
This illustrative story shows you can you can farm beyond your backyard. Farming in your community is a great service to farmers around you.
There is very little technology in this setup. The focus is on partnership, ingenuity, and raising pigs in forests ethically.
Buck is raising pigs while delivering a volume of value-added services.
Does Raising Pigs Damage Land? Or Does Management Practices Matter?
The concept is a great service to the landowner. When managed properly, pigs help break down brush in the wood while reducing competition for timber trees.
It's one of the reasons pigs under trees will be a part of the nomadic caretaking system at Prosperity Homestead. Unlike goats, pigs work at and below the ground level.
Pigs can prepare land for grassland establishment and do most of the manual labor in silvoculture. The key is movement. That's where Buck's portable infrastructure is so valuable.
